Dental Technology NYC — Guided Surgery, CEREC, Solea & CBCT
Dental technology at our NYC practice is chosen for direct clinical benefit — precision that reduces risk, speed that saves you visits, and comfort that reduces anxiety.
01 — Implant Surgery
Guided Implant Surgery
3D-planned precision, every implant placed by an experienced clinician
More precise placement. Lower risk. Faster healing.

Every implant case begins with a 3D CBCT scan. Each implant's position is planned in 3D software and translated into a custom 3D-printed surgical guide that maps the exact depth, angle, and position for placement.
On surgery day, Dr. Shi places each implant by hand following that guide — keeping placement on the planned trajectory and reducing the risk of nerve damage, sinus perforation, and implant misalignment.
Guided surgery pairs the precision of 3D planning with the judgment of an experienced surgeon. Your implant is placed by a skilled clinician — every step controlled by Dr. Shi.
02 — Restorative
CEREC Same-Day Crowns
Custom porcelain crowns milled in-house during your appointment
One visit. Permanent crown. No temporaries.

CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) uses digital impressions and in-office CAD/CAM milling to design and mill a custom porcelain crown during a single visit.
There is no need for a temporary crown, no second appointment two weeks later, and no messy impression material. The Centre Dental team takes a digital scan, the crown is designed on-screen, and the milling unit produces it in approximately 15–20 minutes.
CEREC crowns are made from a single block of high-strength ceramic — the same material used for traditional lab-fabricated crowns — and are color-matched to your adjacent teeth.
03 — Soft & Hard Tissue
Solea All-Tissue Laser
Many procedures without a drill — often without anesthesia
Less discomfort. No drill. Faster recovery.

The Solea laser is a CO2 laser system capable of performing both soft and hard tissue procedures — including cavity preparation, gum contouring, and frenectomies — with minimal discomfort.
Because the laser does not generate vibration or pressure (the sensations that trigger dental anxiety for many patients), many Solea procedures can be performed without local anesthesia.
Laser procedures also produce less bleeding, cause less tissue trauma, and typically heal faster than their conventional counterparts.
04 — Diagnostics
CBCT 3D Imaging
A complete 3D map of your bone, nerves, and anatomy
Precise planning. No surprises in surgery.

Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) produces a three-dimensional scan of the jaw, teeth, bone, and surrounding anatomy in a single low-dose exposure — typically in under 30 seconds.
For implant surgery, CBCT is essential. It reveals bone density, bone volume, sinus position, nerve canal location, and tooth root orientation — all of which inform safe, precise surgical planning.
Every new patient at Centre Dental receives a complimentary CBCT scan as part of their initial consultation. The scan data is used to design the custom 3D-printed surgical guide for implant cases.
05 — Digital Impressions
iTero Digital Scanner
Accurate digital impressions — no trays, no putty
Comfortable impressions. More accurate restorations.

The iTero intraoral scanner captures a precise 3D model of the teeth and soft tissue in minutes using a small wand that is comfortable and easy to tolerate.
Digital scans eliminate the inaccuracies associated with traditional impression materials and are immediately available for use in treatment planning, aligner fabrication, and CEREC crown design.
iTero is the official scanner for Invisalign and integrates directly with the Invisalign planning software, allowing the Centre Dental team to show patients a simulated result before treatment begins.
Powered by Overjet · FDA-cleared dental AI
AI-supported X-ray review — a second set of eyes.
Starting June 2026, Centre Dental uses Overjet — an FDA-cleared, HIPAA-compliant dental AI system. Overjet reviews your X-rays alongside Dr. Shi and our team, highlighting findings like cavities, tartar, and bone levels in clear color so nothing subtle gets missed. Diagnosis and treatment decisions are always made by your licensed clinician — Overjet is a second set of eyes, not a decision-maker.
01 — Imaging AI
AI-assisted X-ray reading
After every routine X-ray, Overjet outlines decay, existing restorations, tartar, and bone-level findings. The clinician still reads + decides.
02 — Chairside notes
AI voice for chairside notes
While your dentist talks with you, AI turns the natural conversation into structured clinical notes — so eye contact stays on you, not on a keyboard.
03 — Insurance eligibility
AI insurance eligibility
Before your appointment, your dental insurance benefits are verified automatically — so we can give you an accurate, written estimate before any treatment begins. No surprise bills.
Questions about dental AI — for patients
What you might want to know
What is Overjet?
Overjet is dental AI cleared by the FDA. It looks at your X-rays alongside our team and highlights findings — like cavities, tartar, and bone levels — in clear color, so nothing subtle gets missed.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Your X-rays are handled with the same privacy and security protections as the rest of your dental record, in compliance with HIPAA. Overjet does not sell or share your personal health information.
What does the AI look at?
Just your X-rays. Overjet detects, outlines, and measures findings such as decay, existing restorations, tartar, and bone levels. It does not analyze photos of you, your medical history, or anything else.
Is the AI making decisions?
No. Overjet is a second set of eyes — it surfaces findings for our team to review. Your diagnosis and treatment plan are always made by your licensed clinician, with you.
Do I have to use it?
Using Overjet doesn't change the X-rays you'd normally receive — it just helps us read them more carefully. If you'd prefer we not review your images with AI support, let any member of our team know.
